If Ukraine is dumped, Russia will step up its blackmail
of West – Russian expert
(Zik) --- A year after the outbreak of
the war in Donbas, Americans realize that Ukraine is a deterrent to Putin’s
increasing blackmail of the West, a renowned Russian political expert, Lilya
Shevtsova told colta.ru in an interview.
“For 6 months, the US administration had been persuading itself
that the war in Ukraine
is a regional conflict, or a civil war, or Kremlin’s mistake it will try to
rectify. After one year, Americans have realized that, if they dump Ukraine , Russia will gauge West’s patience
trying to establish the limits of its blackmail,” the expert said.
Pres Obama is
against resolutely countering Kremlin’s aggression and active help to Ukraine . Obama
is sitting on the fence, trying to pass the buck to Angela Merkel, Shevtsova
said.
However, the more
active Congress is coming to the fore as well as the prospect of the coming
presidential election, something that may change America ’s
stance toward Ukraine ,
the expert said.
