According to his estimates, the number of attacks has increased by 30%, their intensity has risen as well. "We do not see any trend toward reduction of cease-fire violations," Taran said. According to him, the situation was especially tense near Horlivka city, which has actually become another hot spot.

Russian-backed militants launch new attacks along Donbas front line
(Ukraine Today) --- Ukrainian forces repelled heavy weapons, tanks and other armoured vehicles: Army spokesman Lysenko
More militant provocations on the front line in East Ukraine.
Ten Ukrainian troops have been wounded over the past 24 hours, according to Army spokesman Andriy Lysenko. He said on Wednesday that Russian-backed insurgents used heavy weapons and tanks along the demarcation line.
Attacks were recorded in areas including Skyrokyne, a village by the Azov Sea between Mariupol and the Russian border and in several settlements west of Donetsk.
Andriy Lysenko, Ukrainian army spokesman: "The increased number of armed provocations in previously quiet areas leaves no doubt that the enemy is attempting to violate the ceasefire and blame the Ukrainian side for that."
Ukrainian intelligence suggests Russian-backed militants have amassed a force of 700 militant Russian tanks and 43,000 soldiers, news agency TSN reported Tuesday. Reports suggest militants have restocked their weapon and ammunition supplies in order to improve their skills for the active phase of hostilities.
Meanwhile, an explosion near Odessa damaged railway tracks late on Tuesday, just before a train was to pass that section of the line. No injuries were reported. It was the latest in a number of explosions in cities including Odessa, Kiev and Kharkiv in recent months, most of which have targeted pro-Ukrainian volunteer organizations' offices and groups.

OSCE: Neither Ukraine nor militants withdraw all heavy weapons
(UNIAN) --- Neither Ukraine nor Russian-backed militants have withdrawn all of their heavy weapons out of range of the front line, OSCE Deputy Chief Monitor Alexander Hug said on Wednesday.
"We are monitoring the withdrawal of heavy weapons by both sides. And when we come back to the places where the withdrawn weapons should be stored, we often observe that not all the equipment is there," he said.
"We are not allowed access to these places, or we ascertain that new weapons are stored in these places," Hug said.
"Neither the Ukrainian government nor the illegal armed groups have completed the withdrawal of heavy weapons, as should have been done in accordance with the Minsk agreements," he said.

Russia to go on with hybrid war on Ukraine – Russian expert
(Zik) --- The stand-off in Donbas cannot be resolved now by diplomats, former expert of the Russian Institute of Strategic Research and president of the center for political research of Northern and Eastern Europe Aleksandr Sitin said May 13, speaking on Radio Svoboda.
So far, the West does not seem to realize this, he said.
“That is why the West will do all to implement the scenarios of political settling of the conflict, with talks in the Normandy format and visits by Kerry going on,” the Russian expert said.
All Putin’s flirtations with the West about his alleged desire to resolve the conflict are aimed at demoralizing the Ukrainian resistance, he believes.
“Most probably, this is all political shenanigans. I am sure that the Russian policy is and will be aggressive not only with regard to Ukraine but to all post-Soviet space,” Sitin said.
The expert is skeptical that Russia would start an open war against Ukraine. The on-going hybrid war will continue, with Russia using Donbas separatists and unidentified mercenaries.

Putin planned to create Novorossiya – from Donbas to TransNistria
(Zik) --- A member of the opposition in Russia and lawmaker Lev Shlosberg says after the annexation of Crimea Putin set to create Novorossiya engulfing Donbas, Southern Ukraine and TransNistria, Apostrof reports May 13.
“Putin’s appetite whetted after the grab of Crimea, so his next plan was to grab the part of southern Ukraine stretching to the TransNistria enclave, the more so that TransNistria is another millstone around his neck,” the lawmaker says.
However, Putin did not expect such strong resistance from Ukrainians.
“He believes Ukraine would surrender Donbas as easily as it did Crimea. It was his political and military miscalculation,” Shlosberg says.

Fresh Blast Hits Ukraine's Government-Held Odessa
ODESSA, Ukraine(RFE/RL) --- An overnight explosion near the Black Sea port city of Odessa has damaged a rail line and delayed trains for hours but reportedly did not cause any injuries.
The Ukrainian Interior Ministry said on May 13 that the blast, which occurred around midnight, left a meter-deep crater under the tracks.
Officials say train transport was resumed by morning rush hour.
An investigation has been launched into what authorities described as an act of "sabotage."
On May 12, also in Odessa, local law enforcement officials said they had found and defused an explosive device planted very near a natural-gas pipeline leading to a machine-building factory.
A city of 1 million people, Odessa lies less than 450 kilometers from Kiev and hundreds of kilometers from the battle lines between central government forces and pro-Russian fighters who declared "people's republics" in eastern Ukraine.
But it was the scene a year ago of one of the deadliest civilian incidents since conflict erupted in eastern Ukraine, with more than 30 pro-Russians found dead after a fire swept through a trade union building where they reportedly sought refuge from a hostile crowd.
Last month, the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) announced that it had detained more than 40 suspected members of a terrorist group in Odessa who allegedly were planning a series of attacks in the city during celebrations marking the Orthodox Easter on April 12.
Also in April, the SBU detained three people suspected of involvement in a series of bombings in Odessa, some of them targeting organizations with ties to soldiers fighting against Russian-backed rebels in eastern Ukraine, where more than 6,100 people have been killed since April 2014.
There have been a number of explosions in recent months in Odessa and the eastern city of Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city.
In February, a policeman, an activist, and a teenager were killed in Kharkiv when an explosion ripped through a march marking the first anniversary of the Maidan antigovernment protests in Kiev that ousted pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych in 2014.
Officials have blamed the blasts on Russia and pro-Moscow rebels who hold parts of the eastern provinces of Donetsk and Luhansk.
