Lysenko warns of possible radiation leak due to explosion at chemical products factory in Donetsk
(UNIAN) --- The recent massive explosion at a state factory of chemical products in Donetsk may result in a radiation leak from a radioactive waste storage site located near the plant, the Ukrainian presidential administration spokesman Andriy Lysenko said on Friday.
"The explosion occurred in the territory of Donetsk state factory of chemical products, which is controlled by the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic," Lysenko said.
"Residents of Donetsk region ha ve reasons to worry, because not far away from this plant there is a storage of radioactive materials, and even before the Russian aggression, there was a need for repairs, especially to the walls of the storage," according to Lysenko.
"But after start of the aggression, it is clear that the whole security of this facility has been broken down, and there are speculations that powerful explosions at the state plant may cause cracks in the walls and there may be leaking of radioactive material into the environment," Lysenko said.
In addition, Lysenko said that the militants had failed to verify the technical condition of the radioactive materials storage, nor carried out radiation measurements.
"It is highly advisable to pay attention to this, and let in there at least an international group of specialists to measure background radiation and examine the facilities," Lysenko said.

Sixty Russians ask for asylum in Ukraine since beginning of 2015 – State Migration Service
(Interfax) --- Since the beginning of 2015, 60 Russian citizens have requested political asylum in Ukraine, Director of the Refugees and Foreigners Department of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Natalia Naumenko has said.
"There are 60 applications as of today," she said during a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine of Friday.
According to her, these were only applications, as the Migration Service hasn't reviewed every case.
Deportment Director also said that in 2014, 130 Russians were granted refugee status.
Naumenko added that the Migration Service hadn't registered the considerable increase of applications for political asylum, however the reasons for such applications has changed. If earlier the majority of such applications were filed by Russians arrested in Ukraine who were awaiting extradition to Russia, the majority of the applications are now being filed due to the threat of political persecution, as applicants participated in Euromaidan events or actively supported Ukraine while living in Russia.

ATO: Militants attack Ukrainian troops 90 times overnight
(UTR-TV) --- Russian-backed militants in the Donbas attacked Ukrainian army positions 90 times from Thursday evening to Friday morning, the press center of the Anti-Terrorist Operation said on its Facebook page on Friday.
"The militants fired Grad multiple rocket launchers, artillery, combat vehicles, small arms and rocket-propelled grenades on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces along the demarcation line," the report says.
The level of attacks reported by the Ukrainian military in recent days has been similar to that which it reported during the heavy fighting ahead of, and after, a ceasefire was supposed to have come into effect in eastern Ukraine on February 15.
According to the report, the militants intensified their attacks in the evening. In total, they attacked Ukrainian army positions and residential areas 55 times during the night.
The militants fired powerful 152mm howitzers on the villages of Shyroka Balka near Artemivsk and Shyrokyne. In the area of Mariupol, the militants fired 120mm mortars on the village of Chermalyk.
According to the Minsk peace agreements of February 12, both sides were supposed to have moved weapons of caliber greater than 100mm out of range of the front line. However, the OSCE, the organization charged with monitoring the weapons pullback, has noted numerous violations of this provision of the peace deal. In addition, OSCE monitors are prevented by the Russian-backed militants from accessing large swathes of the Ukrainian territory they control, including areas up to the front line.
"Not far from Donetsk, the militants fired small arms and 82mm mortars on the villages of Pisky and Opytne, as well as the towns of Krasnohorivka and Maryinka. After midnight, they fired on the town of Zolote and the village of Sokilnyky in Luhansk region," the headquarters said.
However, the Russian-backed militants were most active in the town of Maryinka. They attacked Ukrainian army positions at least ten times, using 120mm mortars, infantry fighting vehicles, rocket-propelled grenades and small arms.
Under the cover of their assault groups, the militants tried twice to oust the Ukrainian armed forced from their positions. However, the enemy suffered losses and had to retreat, the headquarters said.
