Japan offers Ukraine aid of $1.5 billion.
   KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has thanked Japan's visiting prime minister for promising $1.5 billion in credit guarantees to aid the country's efforts at reform and redevelopment.
   Shinzo Abe was visiting the country on Saturday en route to the G-7 summit in Germany. Among his round of ceremonies was one where he announced the donation 1,500 hybrid automobiles to Ukraine's police.
   "I feel that that Ukrainian government is fully determined and prepared to steadfastly move on the path of reform," the Japanese leader said.
   Poroshenko said the credit guarantees will be used for an array of reform and development projects.
   He also said Japan has agreed to a soft loan of $1.1 billion for rehabilitation of Kiev's sewage treatment plant.

Ukrainian patrol policemen to get over 1,500 Japanese hybrid automobiles – Poroshenko
   (Interfax) --- New patrol police units, which will start its work across Ukraine in late June-early July, will receive cars with environmentally friendly engines from Japan as a part of Kyoto protocol, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.
   "Namely today we almost finish a unique project, which is implemented by Japanese party as a part of green investment project," the president said during the ceremony of passing the automobiles in Kyiv on Saturday, with the participation of Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
   He said these cars won't just improve conditions of the police service, but also will reduce fuel consumption, will save money and will improve ecological situation in the cities, where they would be used.
   "Cars that Japan passes to [Ukrainian] Interior Ministry, will be transferred to a new reshaped national police, patrol service units, which should be a symbol of zero tolerance to corruption and will be used throughout our state," said Poroshenko.
   Poroshenko believes that these vehicles can be a symbol of a new honest police.
   In turn, prime minister of Japan said these cars would be a serious contribution to the reforming of the Ukrainian police.

Ukraine, Canada negotiating on free trade area – premier
   (Interfax) --- Ukraine and Canada now are holding talks over establishment of free trade area, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatseniuk said.
   "We're holding talks over a free trade area between Ukraine and Canada. I hope that within three months we are to complete these talks," the premier told the journalists following the meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Kyiv on Saturday.
   He said that now the parties "are on a good stage of talks."
   "Investments from Canada to Ukraine and the access of the Ukrainian goods to the market of Canada – this is what has been also discussed at today's talks with Harper," the premier said.

Poroshenko holds phone conversation with new president of Latvia
   KIEV, June 6 (Ukrinform). --- Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has held a telephone conversation with Raimonds Vejonis who had been elected to the post of President of Latvia.
   According to the presidential press service, congratulated Raimonds Vejonis on this victory and expressed hope for further intensive cooperation with a reliable partner of Ukraine - Latvia.
   Poroshenko noted the high level of Latvia's support for Ukraine's sovereignty and its European future that he saw in the course of the recent Eastern Partnership Summit and stressed that Ukraine considered receiving the European prospects and establishing the visa-free regime with the EU one of the top priorities.
   The Ukrainian President stressed the importance of further cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the context of providing expertise and support in the implementation of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, participation in NATO trust funds and interaction in military-technical sphere.
   Raimonds Vejonis expressed gratitude for congratulations, assured of further development of Ukrainian-Latvian partnership and wished peaceful settlement of the situation in Donbas.
   Petro Poroshenko also invited his Latvian counterpart to make a visit to Ukraine.

One soldier killed and ten injured over past 24 hours
   (Censor.NET) --- One Ukrainian soldier was killed in the ATO zone on June 5.
   Representative of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine on ATO issues Colonel Andrii Lysenko said at a briefing, Censor.NET reports citing RBK-Ukraina.
   "On soldier was killed and ten were wounded over the past 24 hours," Lysenko said.

Canada allocates $5 mln for training new Ukrainian police
   KIEV, June 6 (Ukrinform). --- Canada allocates Ukraine $5 million for training Ukrainian police.
   Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this commenting on the results of a meeting with his Canadian counterpart Stephen Harper, who is on a working visit to Ukraine.
   This is reported by an Ukrinform correspondent.
   "Canada has decided to allocate Ukraine $5 million for training new Ukrainian patrol police. This is a real help for Ukraine to become a strong and secure state," Yatsenyuk said.
   According to him, Ukraine also expects the arrival of the Canadian military, who will train the Ukrainian National Guard.
   The Ukrainian Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the government, people of Canada and to Stephen Harper personally for their support of Ukraine.
   "Canada is one of Ukraine's strongest allies," Yatsenyuk stressed.

Situation in Ukraine's eastern regions.
   KIEV, June 6 (Ukrinform). --- The situation in eastern Ukraine remains tense. Despite the declared ceasefire, Russian-backed terrorists continue to fire at Ukrainian army positions and settlements in Donbas.
   The map reflecting the situation in Donbas as of 12.00 on June 6 has been released by the information and analytical center of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council.

28th Brigade demonstrated ID of Russian soldier killed at Marinka.
   (Censor.NET) --- Soldiers of the 28th Guards Mechanized Brigade demonstrated weapons and equipment of the terrorists killed in the Marinka attack.
   Photo proofs were published on the Brigade's Facebook page, Censor.NET reports.
   Moreover, ID of Russian citizen Sergei Bitsoev was found at the scene.

Russia would attack NATO only in mad person’s dream – Putin
   (Censor.NET) --- Russia is not building up its offensive military capabilities overseas and is only responding to security threats caused by US and NATO military expansion on its borders, Russian President Vladimir Putin told Italian outlet Il Corriere della Sera
   Censor.NET reports citing Коmmеrsant.
   Putin stressed that one should not take the ongoing Russian aggression scaremongering in the West seriously, as a global military conflict is unimaginable in the modern world.
   "I think that only an insane person and only in a dream can imagine that Russia would suddenly attack NATO. I think some countries are simply taking advantage of people's fears with regard to Russia. They just want to play the role of front-line countries that should receive some supplementary military, economic, financial or some other aid," Putin said.
   In addition, the Russian president traditionally accused the West of inability to resolve the conflict in the Donbas.

Ukraine army captured Russian officer near Marjinka
   (Zik) --- Speaking in a live political talk show on ICTV late June 5, lawmaker and servicemen Boryslav Bereza praised the operation of Ukraine army near Marjinka.
   “Thanks to our sources among the rebels we know that the enemy losses were 62 killed and 90 wounded, with 22 still missing,” Bereza said.
   A Russian officer was captured during the enemy attack by 95th brigade servicemen. However, he was killed by a shell, Bereza said.
   Following the mopping-up operation in Marjinka after the attack, Ukrainian army captured 12 separatists, its spokesman said.
