First US heavy military equipment expected in Latvia next year

   (Ukraine Today) --- Latvia's Defence Minister said agreements were still being worked out

   The US is planning to deploy a first batch of heavy military equipment to Latvia as soon as next year.

   The Baltic state's Defence Minister Raymonds Bergmanis said few details about the deal were available now. However, he said discussions were being coordinated with neighbours Lithuania and Estonia. That's according to Baltic news agency Delfi.

   Bergmanis also said some 123 refurbished military vehicles from the UK will soon be delivered.

   The invasion of eastern Ukraine by regular Russian forces has alarmed the former Soviet republics. In response, NATO's armed forces presence and training has increased in the region.
