Later on, the same positions were covered with 122-mm artillery.
Yesterday, near Svitlodarsk in the Donetsk region, it was rather calm with only a few attacks with machine guns and grenade launchers at the Ukrainian army positions in Luhanske and Lozova. Ukrainian soldiers returned fire. In Sanzharivka near Debaltseve, Ukrainian military were shelled from mortars for about an hour.
To the north and west of Horlivka, the situation remains difficult. To the south, in Verkhniotoretske, two armed provocations by militants took place early in the morning and late in the evening.
In the western suburbs of Donetsk the situation is unchanged with around the clock fighting persisting. Avdiivka residential area saw the biggest destruction, having been fired at for three times from 122-mm artillery deployed in the village of Spartak.
As reported, Avdiivka with its famous Coke Plant is located on the line of contact. From the beginning of the year, as a result of its barbaric shelling by militants, 31 civilians were killed, 87 - wounded, including three children.
The second hot spot in this sector is Marinka, where our defense lines are regularly tried by hostile sabotage and reconnaissance groups moving from the south-east. Also these lines fall under active fire of enemy snipers hiding in mine waste heaps.
Only one armed incident was recorded yesterday in the Mariupol direction: militants used mortars to shell the Ukrainian troops strong point near Hranitne. The enemy was shooting from the opposite bank of Kalmius.
